Severe Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy
This slide shows Severe Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy. Note the red hemorrhages filling eye and preventing light from reaching the retina. No details of retina are visible. At this stage, vision is quite poor, perhaps limited to sensing light versus darkness, but unable to perceive any detail. The patient pictured here requires vitreous surgery (Vitrectomy) to remove the blood, and any scar tissue that may be pulling on the retina, possibly causing a retinal detachment.
