Advanced Background Diabetic Retinopathy

This slide shows Advanced Background Diabetic Retinopathy. Note the red hemorrhages and “cotton wool” spots caused by swelling in the retina due to poor circulation. At this stage, significant visual impairment can occur, and laser treatment is necessary to prevent further damage. Advanced Background Diabetic Retinopathy requires more extensive laser (photocoagulation) treatment than its earlier stage.
